The Union Tourism Ministry under the Swadesh Darshan scheme had sanctioned a 150 km long Gavi-Wagamon Mega Tourism Circuit. This circuit will be boosting the eco-tourism activities in Kerala and also creating a world class infrastructure in Pathanamthitta-Gavi-Wagamon-Thekkady region. Considered to be the first mega-tourism circuit in the country, the cost of the circuit is estimated to 95 crore. The other circuits under Swadesh Darshan Scheme are Buddhist and Himalayan circuits.
As per G Kamala Vardhana Rao, Kerala Tourism Secretary, this is for the first time the state is getting such a huge amount for tourism development. Around 10 tourism projects have been submitted by the state to the centre. All of which are waiting for approval. The Gavi-Wagamon circuit will be extending from Angamoozhy in Pathanamthitta to Wagamon. The circuit will provide facilities like trekking, archery and rock climbing.
Around 30 crores will be spent for Pathanamthitta and around 65 crore for Wagamon. Destination development, tourist facilities and security have to be developed under this mega project. The Wagamon-Thekkady area will offer adventure tourism activities like buggy walks, shooting arena, archery arena, pain ball arena etc.
