Ponmudi



Some of the noteworthy tourist attractions in Ponmudi include Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, Echo Point and various trekking spots. The Golden Valley offers a breathtaking view of the nearby hills and also gives access to the Kallar River. The Ponmudi Waterfall is located at a distance of 1.5 kilometers from the hill station. The Meenmutty Waterfall is another famous location in Ponmudi. 3 kilometers away from the Ponmudi Resort lies the Ponmudi Deer Park.

PonmudiThe Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary, located on the outskirts of Ponmudi, is a preserve spread over 53 square kilometers. The sanctuary is home to a wide variety of wild animals and birds like the Asian Elephant, Sambar, Leopards, Lion-Tailed Macaques, Malabar Grey Hornbills, Painted Bush Quail, the Wayanad Laughing Thrush and many more. Of the 483 bird species, fifty nine percentage is found in Ponmudi. Also of the 332 species of butterflies in the western ghats, 195 species are found here. Ponmudi is also home to the highly endangered species of Travancore Tortoise, the Malabar Gliding Frog and the Malabar Tree Toad.

The terrain of Ponmudi consists of hills, valleys and plantations especially tea. This is spread along a wide area. The great importance of biodiversity plays a vital role in maintaining the ecological balance of the area. The best time to visit Ponmudi would be during the Winter (December – March), when the weather would be pleasant.
