Kottamkuzhy

<< Kerala Fairs and Festivals

The weeklong event is conducted in the premises of Perumthitta Tharawad at Kottamkuzhy in the month of February each year.

This is also a festival of Theyyams which is one of the oldest art forms in the country. The Perumthitta Theyyam at Kottamkuzhy near chandrapuram in Kasaragod district, wherein most of the Theyyam forms are on display, is a truly grand affair. The pomp and splendour of the Theyyams are truly breathtaking.

Theyyam, the colourful ritual dance of Kerala is one of the oldest art forms of India. It incorporates dance, mime and music and the rudiments of ancient tribal cultures, which attached great importance to the worship of heroes and ancestral spirits. An array of theyyams, the fascinating dance form of Kannur, including Chamundi theyyam, Vishnumoorthy theyyam and so on are presented at this festival.

Kasaragod is the place to be if visitors want to experience the truly pristine and indigenous charm in Kerala. Once there, you shouldnt miss the Theyyam festival of Perumthitta Tharavad, Kottamkuzhy. This would provide you with the foretaste of a bewitching art form with rustic appeal which would leave you literally mesmerized.

Getting there would be no problem. The nearest railway station is Kasaragod, about 26 km away and the nearest airport, Mangalore, about 50 km away.
