Animal Husbandry

There are 3 seed farms in the farm tourism destination of Pathanamthitta which concentrate in the production of paddy seeds, vegetable seeds, rooted pepper cutting etc. Besides being a developing farm tourism destination,Pathanamthitta also houses the main species of livestock in the district viz. cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep, pigs, fowls and ducks. There are 37 veterinary dispensaries in the district and one mobile farm aid unit functioning at Ayravon, Konni.

This farm tourism destination of Pathanamthitta is known for its two fish breeding centres located at Panivelichira about 15 kms away from the district headquarters.At this fish farm, fingerlings of Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Labeo, Cyprimes etc can be seen and bought by the farmers. The farm at Polachira near Kaviyoor is a National Fish Seed Farm. As per the National Fish Seed Programme, a Chinese hatchery is being constructed at Polachira.
