Thodupuzha is a town and a municipality in Idukki district in the Indian state of Kerala. It is 59 km from Ernakulam.Thodupuzha is also the name of the river that flows through the town. It is located at 9.9000N, 76.7170E and is 22 metres above mean sea level.

It is the largest town in the district and is a commercial centre. The town is being modernised with the help of a programme sponsored by the World Bank with finance coming from the Government of Kerala. It was at one time part of the territory of the Travancore dynasty. It lies in central Kerala, southeast of Muvattupuzha. The Thodupuzha municipality area is characterised by hilly terrain with a lot of green vegetation.

The Main Eastern Highway (Muvattupuzha - Pathanamthitta - Punalur Road / SH - 08) passes through Thodupuzha.Thodupuzha is strategically placed as a gateway to the Highranges of Kerala. It has a population of around fifty thousand and the main occupation is agriculture and trade. It was previously situated in Ernakulam District. Thodupuzha is a verdant land that attracts a number of tourists. A famous hydro electric scheme is coming up at the Malankara dam nearby which is developing as a famous tourist centre.

Elamdesom is another small and interesting village in Thodupuzha taluk., located 17 kilometers from Thodupuzha town. Elamdesom village has a Block Panchayat known as Elamdesom Block Panchayat. Neighbouring villages are Velliamattom panchayat and Alakode village.Elamdesom and surroundings have a natural village setting with lot of scenic beauties. The village consists mainly of farmers. Cultivation consists of rubber plantation, rice and coconut. The village has a good literacy rate and its people are developing in the fields of IT, nursing and other sectors.

Kalayanthani is yet another village in Thodupuzha., 10 kilometers from Thodupuzha town This is one of the beautiful villages of Idukki District. The highlight of Kalayanthani is St. Marys Church which was built in 1920.Palai is a town 30 km southeast of Thodupuzha. Muthalakodam is a pilgrimage centre located 3 km east of Thodupuzha.Thommankuthu is a famous waterfall and tourist place located 18 km from the town in Karimannoor Panchayath.
